Let's take a minute to talk about your child's medication. This is Tivicay PD. It is used with other medications to help keep HIV infection under control. People with HIV have a better quality of life and are living longer than ever before. To do so, it is important that your child takes HIV medications exactly as their doctor tells you to. Tivicay PD is often taken one time each day. Your doctor will determine what dose is right for your child. Each dose can be taken with or without food. Your child should swallow the tablets whole, and do not chew, cut, or crush them. If your child has trouble swallowing, read the 'Instructions for Use' and ask your pharmacist for advice. It is important to not miss any doses. If your child does, the virus could increase and become harder to treat. Most children tolerate Tivicay PD well. Common side effects include a headache, tiredness, and trouble sleeping. You should wait until you know how this medicine will affect your child before doing activities that require them to be alert, like riding a bike. If these or other side effects become reasons you want your child to stop taking this medicine, please talk to their doctor or pharmacist. As with any medicine, rare but more serious side effects can occur. You should read the Patient Information Sheet to know which symptoms to watch for, and when to report changes. To help keep this medicine safe for your child, your doctor will follow their condition closely. Tivicay PD can interact with other medicines. You should always check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving your child other medicines. While taking this medicine, your child must still take precautions to prevent spreading HIV to others. Adolescents of childbearing potential should talk to their doctors about which birth control methods to use. Tivicay PD is not safe for unborn babies and mothers should not breastfeed. For best results with Tivicay PD, be sure to plan ahead for your child's refills. Also, store it in the original bottle with the lid tightly sealed.
