Let's take a minute to talk about your medication

This is Spravato. It helps to treat depression when used in combination with other medications. Spravato is for people whose depression is not controlled on other treatments alone. It may have other uses, too. 

Spravato is a nasal spray. Your doctor will determine what dose is right for you and how often you should take this medicine. You will take your doses of Spravato at your doctor's office or clinic. Before your first dose, your doctor will show you how to use the nasal device. You should also read the 'Instructions for Use' for full information. Your doctor or nurse will watch you closely during and for at least 2 hours after your dose of Spravato. They will tell you which symptoms to report and be prepared to treat any concerns. 

Many people will have side effects. A common side effect includes nausea and vomiting. It is important to avoid food for at least 2 hours before and avoid liquids at least 30 minutes before your dose of Spravato. You could feel tired, disoriented, dizzy, or anxious. Some people also experience numbness or feel like they are spinning. You should wait until you know how this medicine affects you before you do activities that require you to be alert. Also, you should plan to have somebody drive you home afterwards. If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking this medicine, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. 

As with any medicine, rare but serious side effects could occur. With Spravato, this can include thoughts of suicide, depression, and changes in behavior. Get medical help right away if you notice concerning behaviors, thoughts or actions. Spravato can also cause extreme sleepiness, disorientation, and an increase in blood pressure. You should read the Medication Guide to know which symptoms to watch for and when to report changes. To help keep this medicine safe for you, your doctor will monitor you closely.   

Spravato can interact with other medicines. You should always check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any other medicines. 

Spravato may be unsafe for babies. Women must talk to their doctors before becoming pregnant and should not breastfeed.
 
This medicine is controlled by federal law. It can put you at risk for addiction, abuse, misuse, overdose, and death. Your doctor should discuss the risks of treatment with you before you begin this medicine.
