Let's take a minute to talk about your medication.

This is haloperidol. It helps to treat the symptoms of certain mental disorders. This medicine can help you feel better mentally and think more clearly. It can also be used to control tics in Tourette's Syndrome. It may have other uses, too.

This medicine is often taken several times each day. You should take Haloperidol exactly as your doctor tells you to. Your doctor will determine what dose is right for you and may increase your dose over time. Many people will have side effects. Common side effects include headache, drowsiness, and dry mouth. You might feel restless and have trouble sleeping. You should wait until you know how this drug affects you before doing activities that require you to be alert, like driving or riding a bike. You might also feel dizzy, so you should stand up slowly after sitting or lying down. These effects are normal if they are mild and should go away. If these or other effects become reasons you want to stop taking it, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. But don't stop taking it unless your doctor says it's okay.

As with any medicine, rare but more serious side effects could occur. With Haloperidol, this can include muscle problems, abnormal physical movements, and changes in your heart rhythm. You should read the Patient Information Sheet to know what symptoms to watch for and when to report them. To help keep this medicine safe for you, your doctor will follow you closely and may order blood tests.

Haloperidol can interact with other medicines. You should always check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any other medicines. Also, do not drink alcohol.

Women should check with their doctors before becoming pregnant and before breastfeeding.

For best results with Haloperidol, be sure to plan ahead for refills and work with your doctor to manage side effects.
