Let's take a minute to talk about your medication.  This is Veklury, also known as Remdesivir. It helps to treat COVID-19 infections in children and adults requiring hospitalization. Remdesivir is given as an infusion into a vein by a healthcare provider. It is often given one time a day for up to 10 days. Your doctor will determine your dose and for how long you will receive treatment. This medicine can cause side effects. Some side effects include low blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, constipation, and sweating. You should also let your doctor or nurse know right away if you have trouble breathing or if your skin flushes, turns red, or starts itching. This medicine can change how your liver works. To help keep this medicine safe for you, your doctor will follow your condition closely and will order blood tests. Remdesivir may have serious and unexpected side effects as well. Make sure to discuss any side effects you may have with your doctor or pharmacist. Remdesivir may interact with other medicines. Be sure your doctor is aware of all medicines you are taking and allergies you have prior to taking this medicine. It is unclear how remdesivir affects pregnancy and breastfeeding. Women that are pregnant or breastfeeding should discuss this with their doctors. For best results with remdesivir, work closely with your healthcare team.
