Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is Auvi_Q. This medicine treats someone who is having a life threatening allergic reaction. This medicine comes in a prefilled device that uses a very small needle. You should only inject a dose into the outer thigh. When you are prescribed an AUVI-Q, make sure your healthcare provider teaches you how to give the injection. Also, be sure to read the 'Instructions for Use.' During a serious allergic reaction, your body needs epinephrine, but does not make enough. AUVI-Q injects more epinephrine into your body. The dose will help your heart and blood pressure stay strong while you call for emergency help. You need emergency help to continue treating the allergic reaction. Serious allergic reactions can cause death if they are not treated in time. So, if you think you are having a severe allergic reaction, do not delay in using your AUVI-Q. And, it's important not to be afraid of using it. After a dose, it's normal to feel a little shaky, or have other effects like anxiety or a strong heartbeat. These are normal and should go away quickly, especially if you can remain calm. You and your caregivers need to become confident using this device. Your doctor will tell you how and when to use it. There is a training device that comes with your prescription, so you can practice often. The trainer device does not have a needle. Keep your AUVI-Q in the outer case to help protect it from light. Do not store it in extreme heat or cold. For example, it should not be left in a car or stored in the refrigerator. Check it periodically to make sure it is clear, colorless, not expired, and that the blue safety release is intact. For best results with AUVI-Q, use it at the first sign of an allergic reaction.
