Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is Erivedge. It helps to treat a certain type of skin cancer, called basal-cell carcinoma. Erivedge is often taken one time each day. You should take it exactly how your doctor tells you to. You can take your dose with or without food. You should swallow the capsule whole and never open or crush it. Many patients will have side effects. You may feel tired or weak, so wait until you know how it affects you before doing activities that require you to be alert, like driving. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and hair loss. It can also cause a decrease in appetite, weight loss, and a change in the way food tastes. Some people may have muscle spasms, or pain in their joints. You should tell your doctor right away if you have these or any side effects. He or she will help you manage them. If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking this medicine, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. As with any medicine, rare but serious side effects could occur. You should read the Medication Guide to know which symptoms to watch for and when to report changes. To help keep this medicine safe for you, your doctor will follow your condition closely and may order blood tests.   Erivedge can interact with other medicines. You should always check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking other medicines. Also, you should not donate blood and men should not donate sperm. Erivedge can harm unborn babies. Women and men must talk to their doctors about which birth control methods to use and for how long. Women should not breastfeed.  For best results with Erivedge, work closely with your doctor to manage side effects. Also, store it in the original bottle with the lid tightly sealed.
