Let's take a minute to talk about your medication.

This is Thyroid USP.  You may hear it called by different brand names, such as Armour Thyroid, Nature Thyroid, or others. This medicine treats low levels of thyroid hormone in your body. You may have low levels of thyroid because of different health conditions. It is an important hormone for metabolism, growth and development. 

This medicine is often taken once a day, at the same time each day. You should take it exactly how your doctor tells you to. You should take it on an empty stomach with a full glass of water, and do not eat anything for at least 30 minutes after the dose. It is generally recommended to take this medicine as soon as you wake up each day. It is very important to not miss doses.

It can take several weeks to see improvement in your symptoms. The full effects from treatment can take a few months.  Your doctor will monitor your dose with lab work.
Thyroid USP is generally well-tolerated, but at first there could be slight and temporary hair loss. This is normal if it is mild and should go away.  If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking this medicine, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. You should not change your dose or stop taking this medicine unless your doctor says it's okay.

As with any medicine, more serious side effects can occur.  With Thyroid USP, these include chest pain, a fast heart rate, and nervousness.  Also, feeling hot and excessive sweating could occur. You should let your doctor know right away if these happen.

Thyroid USP can interact with other medicines. You should always check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any other medicines.
