Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is Symfi. It helps treat HIV-1 infection and keeps it under control. Symfi contains three medicines in each tablet. Symfi is often taken once a day, usually at bedtime. You should take your dose on an empty stomach. This means take each dose at least 1 hour before eating or 2 hours after. Symfi can cause many side effects. Some side effects include pain, diarrhea and headache. Other common side effects are depression, trouble sleeping, trouble concentrating or unusual dreams. Some people report a rash, not feeling well, and weakness. These symptoms are usually mild but could be part of a more serious problem. If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking this medicine, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. As with any medicine, rare but more serious side effects can occur. With Symfi, these include problems with your liver or kidneys. You can also have increased lactic acid in your blood. You should know that if thoughts of suicide, or worsening mood or behavior ever occur, this could be a side effect and you should notify your doctor right away. You should read the patient information sheet to know which symptoms to watch for and when to report changes. Symfi can also cause a flare up of hepatitis B if you already have it. To prevent this, you must not miss doses or stop taking it, unless your doctor says it is okay. Symfi can interact with other medicines. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any other medicines. Women taking Symfi should not become pregnant or breastfeed. Talk to your doctor about what type of birth control to use and for how long. For best results with Symfi, be sure to plan ahead for refills.
