Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is Emgality. It is used to help reduce or prevent certain types of headaches. Emgality is an injection given under the skin once a month. The injection is given in the abdomen, thigh, back of the upper arm or buttocks. You should read the "Instructions for Use" to make sure you are comfortable giving yourself the injection. For the first dose, you may receive 2 injections. Your doctor will determine the best dose for you. Emgality should be stored in the refrigerator in the original carton. Do not freeze or shake it. After removing it from the refrigerator, it can be stored at room temperature for up to 7 days. If it is kept out longer than 7 days, it should be thrown away. Most people tolerate Emgality well. The most common side effect is pain or swelling at the injection site. This is normal if it is mild and should go away. If this or other side effects make you want to stop taking this medicine, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. As with any medicine, more serious side effects can occur. These can include allergic reactions. You should read the Patient Information Sheet for which symptoms to watch for and when to report them. Women should talk to their doctors before becoming pregnant or breastfeeding. For best results with Emgality, continue taking it exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
