Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is Ziana gel, and it contains two medicines called clindamycin and tretinoin. Ziana gel is applied to the skin to treat acne. It may take some time to start working. Your doctor will tell you how to use Ziana. It's commonly applied before bedtime, after you wash your face with mild soap and warm water. You should pat your skin dry, and then gently squeeze a small amount of gel onto your fingertip—no more than the size of a pea. Gently spread a thin layer over the skin on your face. Be careful NOT to get any gel in your eyes, mouth, lips, the corners of your nose or on open wounds. Each morning, you will need to protect your skin from the sun, wind and cold air. This means you should use sunscreen, even if it is a cloudy day, and avoid tanning beds and sunlamps. Also, wear protective clothing and hats when you are outside. This medicine is well-tolerated, but some side effects can occur, like skin irritation, changes in skin color, and throat or sinus inflammation. These are normal if they are mild and should go away. If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking this medicine, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. As with any medicine, rare but serious side effects could occur. You should stop using Ziana and call your doctor if your skin becomes swollen, blistered, crusted or very red. Also call right away if you develop watery or bloody diarrhea. For best results, read the 'Patient Information Guide'. Also, ask your doctor or pharmacist to make sure your soap, cosmetics and facial products are okay to use with Ziana gel.
