Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is Xtandi. Xtandi helps treat prostate cancer that is resistant to other treatment and has spread to other parts of the body. It may have other uses, too. Xtandi is often taken once a day at the same time each day. You should take it exactly how your doctor tells you to. You can take your dose with or without food. You should swallow the capsule whole with water. It is normal to have side effects. You may feel a little tired, dizzy or weak, or feel like things around you are spinning. You should move carefully to avoid falling down and getting injured. Also, you should wait until you know how Xtandi affects you before doing activities that require you to be alert, like driving. Other common side effects include a headache, hot flashes, a decreased appetite, weight loss, and either diarrhea or constipation. You could have swelling in your hands or feet, or pain in your back, joints, muscles or bones. The good news is most side effects are not serious. Still, you should report them to your doctor promptly. As with any medicine, rare but more serious side effects can occur. You should read the Patient Information sheet to know which symptoms to watch for and when to report changes. To help keep this medicine safe for you, your doctor will follow your condition closely and will watch for high blood pressure. Xtandi is not safe for unborn babies. It should not be handled by women who can become pregnant. Men must talk to their doctors about which birth control to use and for how long. For best results with Xtandi, work closely with your health care team to manage side effects.
