Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is Vyvanse. It is a stimulant medicine, but it calms people with ADHD so they can focus, work and learn. Vyvanse treats other conditions, too, like binge-eating disorders. You can take Vyvanse with or without food, but you should take the dose in the morning. This allows it to work during the day, and to wear off by bedtime. You should swallow the capsule whole. If you can't swallow the capsule, you can open it and stir the powder into a little water, orange juice or yogurt. Then, eat or drink the mixed powder right away. Vyvanse is considered safe when taken under a doctor's care. Still, you should wait until you know how Vyvanse affects you or your child before doing things like driving, riding a bike, or anything that requires attention. Common side effects can happen, like stomach upset, headaches, or less appetite. Others include anxiety, irritability or problems sleeping. These are normal if they are mild and should go away. Also, some patients get tics, or repeated movements, like eye-blinking or throat-clearing. Tell the doctor if these or other side effects worry you. The doctor will likely check blood pressure and heart rate, and also the height and weight of children. As with any medicine, rare but serious side effects could occur. You should read the Medication Guide for more information. Always call the doctor right away if you notice any unusual changes to your body, especially unexplained wounds on fingers or toes. Also call right away for chest pain or troublesome moods, thoughts or behaviors. Remember, Vyvanse is a controlled-substance because it can be abused or misused by others. So, you need to store it securely. For best results with Vyvanse, take it exactly as prescribed.
