Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is trospium in an extended-release capsule. This medicine treats symptoms caused by an overactive bladder. It may help you urinate less, have fewer urges to go, and have fewer accidental leaks. Trospium extended-release is taken one time a day in the morning. You should take it exactly as your doctor tells you to. You should take it on an empty stomach, and at least 1 hour before a meal. You should take it with water, and swallow the capsule whole. Do not drink alcohol within 2 hours of taking a dose. Most people tolerate this medicine well. Side effects include a dry mouth, blurred vision, trouble emptying the bladder, urinary tract infections and constipation. You should ask your doctor how to prevent constipation, and when to report symptoms. Another possible side effect is drowsiness. Drinking alcohol can make drowsiness worse. You should wait until you know how this medicine affects you before doing activities that require you to be alert, like driving. If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking it, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This medicine can make your body sweat less and you could become overheated. You will need to take care to stay cool in hot weather. Try to stay in the shade, drink plenty of water, and avoid too much physical activity. As with any medicine, rare but more serious side effects could occur, like an allergic reaction. Get medical help right away if you have a rash, itching, trouble breathing or swelling in your face or mouth. Drug interactions can occur. You should always check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking other medicines. For best results with trospium extended-release, be sure to read the Patient Information sheet.
