Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is a FlexTouch Pen, and it contains Tresiba insulin. Tresiba helps control diabetes by lowering blood sugar. Controlling diabetes is important. Over time, it can postpone or prevent serious health problems. Some patients who use insulin report improved moods, sleep and energy. Tresiba is injected under the skin with a very small needle. You should use it exactly as your doctor tells you to, and at the same time each day. Tresiba is sold in more than one concentration, so make sure that you receive the correct one. Also, read the label before every dose. Tresiba is long-acting. It stays at steady levels in your body. It cannot treat blood sugar spikes that happen after eating. You should feel confident with your training on injections. Remember to always rotate injection sites, and never re-use needles. If you have questions, your doctor or pharmacist can help. Tresiba can cause low blood sugar. Symptoms include feeling shaky, irritable, lightheaded or sweaty. Low blood sugar can also affect your concentration and reaction time. You should be aware of this before doing activities that require you to be alert, like driving. To help prevent low blood sugar, tell your doctor when you are sick or stressed. Also, do not skip meals, and do not over-exercise.  You should know when to check your blood sugar levels. You should ask your doctor what your blood sugar goal is, and how to treat it if it is low or high. You should store unopened Tresiba Pens in the refrigerator. You can keep the pen you are using at room temperature, or in the refrigerator. Once you open a pen, you must throw it away after 56 days. For best results with Tresiba, be sure to read the Patient Information and instructions.
