Let's take a minute to talk about your medication.

This is Toujeo. It is a long-acting insulin. It helps to control high blood sugar in adults who have diabetes.

Toujeo is available in two pens -- the Toujeo Solostar and the Toujeo MAX Solostar. Both pens contain 300 units of insulin in every 1 milliliter.

Toujeo is often given once a day at the same time each day. You should use it exactly as your doctor tells you. Before every dose, you should read the label to make sure you have the right insulin.

Toujeo is injected under the skin. You should feel confident with your training on injections. Also, you should read the full "Instructions for Use". Remember to never re-use needles. If you have questions, your doctor or pharmacist can help.

Most people tolerate this medicine well. Common side effects include weight gain, itching and a rash. Sometimes, the injection site can have reactions or changes to the skin. These effects are normal if they are mild and should go away. You should wait until you know how this medicine affects you before you do things that require you to be alert, like driving.

As with any medicine, other possibly serious side effects could occur. You should read the Patient Information sheet to know which symptoms to watch for and when to report them.

Low blood sugar could occur. To help avoid low blood sugar, you should not skip meals, drink alcohol or over-exercise. Also, you should check your blood sugar as often as your doctor tells you to. Blood sugar that is very low, or high, may require emergency help, so make sure you discuss a plan with your doctor.

For best results with Toujeo, be sure to follow the diet and exercise plans that your doctor recommends.
