Tafinlar is used to treat certain types of melanoma, thyroid and non-small cell lung cancer. It may have other uses, too. This medicine is often taken two times a day, about 12 hours apart. You should take it exactly as your doctor tells you to. You should swallow the capsule whole, and never open, crush or break it. You should take it on an empty stomach. This means take it at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Many people will have side effects. Common side effects include a headache, achy joints and hair loss. People who have diabetes should watch for high blood sugar levels. If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking this medicine, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. As with any medicine, more serious effects could occur. With Tafinlar, these include fevers, bleeding, heart problems, and vision problems. You should read the medication guide to know which symptoms to watch for and when to report changes. It is important to know that Tafinlar can cause new skin cancers and skin reactions. You should check your skin frequently. Tell your doctor right away if you notice new warts, changes in moles, and skin sores or bumps that bleed or do not heal. You should also report rashes, acne, and changes to your hands or feet. Your doctor will check your skin every few months. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking other medicines. Tafinlar is not safe for unborn babies. Women must talk to their doctors about which birth control to use and for how long. Women should not breast feed. For best results with Tafinlar, work closely with your doctor to manage side effects.
