Let's take a minute to talk about your medication.    This is tacrolimus ointment. This medicine helps to relieve itching, redness, and rashes. It helps treat skin conditions, like eczema.     Tacrolimus is often applied to the skin two times a day. You should use it exactly how your doctor tells you to. You should apply a thin layer to the affected skin. Then, rub it in gently until the skin absorbs most of it. Be sure to wash your hands with soap and water before and after use. If you are treating skin on your hand, do not wash that area. You should not cover the area with bandages or wraps, unless your doctor says it's okay. You should wear clothing over the treated area to protect it from the sun. Also, do not bathe, shower or swim right after applying tacrolimus. This could wash off the ointment. You can use moisturizers if your doctor says they are okay. Just be sure to apply them after you apply the ointment.   It is important to know that this medicine should only be used on skin that is outside of the body, and never on the mouth, eyes, or vaginal area.    Stop using this medicine when symptoms improve, or when your doctor tells you to stop. You should only use this medicine for a short time, with frequent breaks from use.     Most people tolerate this medicine well. In the first few days of use, common side effects include itching, burning, or stinging. These are normal if they are mild to moderate, and should go away as your condition improves.   For best results with this medicine, read the Medication Guide for full information. Also, tell your doctor right away if your condition does not improve, or if it gets worse instead of better.
