Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is Suprep. It is a laxative which cleanses your colon entirely. This is necessary before a procedure or test, like a colonoscopy. On the day before your test, you can eat a light breakfast. Then, you SHOULD NOT eat any solid food until after your test. You SHOULD drink plenty of clear liquids during the hours that you are awake so you do not become dehydrated. Examples of clear liquids are gelatin, broth, apple juice, tea and coffee without creamer. You should not drink milk, alcohol, or liquids that are red or purple. Each Suprep kit contains two doses and a mixing container. You should never drink the doses until after you dilute them with water. To dilute the first dose, you should pour the contents of ONE bottle of Suprep into the provided mixing container. Then, add plain water until it reaches the fill line. This will be about 16 ounces. Now, you should drink the entire amount, unless your doctor says otherwise. Over the next hour, you must drink a total of two additional containers of plain water filled to the fill line. You will begin having watery stools soon after your dose. This might cause stomach discomfort, cramping or bloating. This is normal as long as it is relieved after having bowel movements. The second dose will be taken in the morning, about 10 - 12 hours after the evening dose. You will make the second dose the same way as the first, and you will drink it the same way. You must also drink the two additional containers of plain water. It is very important to finish your dose and drink the extra water AT LEAST 2 HOURS BEFORE your test. For best results with Suprep, take it exactly as directed by your doctor, and read the Medication Guide for more information.
