Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is sumatriptan. You should take it only as directed by your doctor, and never take more than prescribed. Your doctor may want you to take your first tablet in the office. If your first tablet doesn't work, don't take it again unless your doctor says it's okay. Sumatriptan treats migraine headaches. You shouldn't take it for headaches that are different than the kind it is prescribed for. Some side effects can happen, like dizziness, weakness or drowsiness. So, wait until you know how it affects you before doing activities that require you to be alert, like driving. Your face may feel warm, and your fingers and toes might feel numb or tingle. These effects are normal if they are mild and should go away. If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking this medicine, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Rare but serious side effects can occur. As always, you should get help right away if you feel symptoms of a heart attack, like vomiting, a cold sweat, or pain in your upper body. Also get help if you have other unusual changes, like a fever, tight muscles, or a fast heartbeat. To reduce side effects, ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any new medicines. Also, take it only as necessary, because using it too often can make your headaches worse. For best results, read the 'Patient Information' leaflet for more information, and keep a written journal of your headaches.
