Let's take a minute to talk about your medication.

This is Reyataz, and you should take it as directed by your doctor. You should take it with food to help it work better, and swallow each capsule whole.

Reyataz can help keep your HIV infection under control so you feel better and live longer. It should always be used along with other HIV medications.

Some patients have side effects, like headache, diarrhea, or nausea. You could also have trouble sleeping, or numbness or burning of your hands and feet. With long-term use, your body fat may change and this could change your appearance. If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking it, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. However, don't stop taking it unless your doctor says it's ok.

In rare cases, possibly serious side effects can occur, so call your doctor right away if you notice any unusual changes to your body, like fever, dizziness, yellowing skin or eyes, or any sign of a rash. Also call if you have pain in your side, or pain or bleeding when you urinate.

To reduce serious side effects and interactions, talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any new medications, including herbals. While taking Reyataz, you must still take precautions to prevent spreading HIV to others.

For best results, continue taking Reyataz as directed, and plan ahead for refills, because missing even a few doses can worsen your infection.
