Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is Restasis. These are eye drops that help your eyes make more tears. This can improve conditions like dry eyes. It may take up to 6 months to see the full effect. You should use Restasis exactly as directed by your doctor. It is often given as one drop in each eye two times a day, as close to 12 hours apart as possible. When you are ready for a dose, you should prepare the eye drops first. To do so, gently turn the vial upside-down a few times. You can stop when the medicine has an even, white appearance. Open the vial and be careful not to let the tip of the vial touch anything. Now, you should put a drop in one eye or both eyes, and then throw the vial away. You should talk to your doctor before wearing contact lenses or before using other eye drops. If you do, make sure to wait at least 15 minutes after using Restasis. Most patients tolerate these eye drops well. Some side effects can occur, like a mild burning sensation in the eye. It should go away after a few moments. If this side effect or others become reasons you want to stop using Restasis, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. For best results with Restasis, plan ahead for refills and try not to miss any doses.
