Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is propranolol, and you should take it as directed by your doctor. You should take it at the same times each day, and space your doses evenly apart. Propranolol has many uses, like treating high blood pressure. Controlling high blood pressure is important to reduce your risk of having a heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, or vision loss. It has other uses, too, like helping patients after a heart attack, reducing chest pain, preventing migraine headaches and controlling certain tremors. Most patients tolerate it well, but some side effects can occur. At first, it can make you tired, so don't do activities that require you to be alert, like driving, until know how it affects you. It may also make you lightheaded, so you should stand slowly after sitting or lying down. You might notice vivid dreams or problems sleeping. These effects are normal if they are mild and should go away. If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking this medicine, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. But, don't suddenly stop taking it unless your doctor says it's okay. In rare cases, more serious problems can occur. You should call your doctor right away if you notice any unusual changes to your body, like a rash, shortness of breath or a very slow heart beat. For best results, plan ahead for refills and continue taking propanolol. You should also follow your doctor's advice about checking your own blood pressure and heart rate.
