Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is Prepopik. It is a laxative which cleans your colon entirely. It cleans your colon by causing you to have diarrhea. A clean colon is necessary before a procedure like a colonoscopy. Prepopik is a powder. It comes in packets. Each packet is one dose. You should never take the powder without mixing it with water. You must always mix each packet with 5 ounces of cold water before drinking the dose. You will take two doses of this medicine. Some people will drink the first dose the night before the test and the second dose the morning of the test. Other people will drink both doses the day BEFORE the test. Your doctor will tell you which dosing plan is right for you. Also, you must read the "Instructions for Use" for full information. After the first dose, you will begin having watery stools. You may have stomach discomfort, cramping or bloating. This is normal and should improve after several bowel movements. You should not take your second dose until your stomach feels better. After the first dose, you MUST NOT eat any solid food until after your test. It is important for you to drink plenty of clear liquids while taking this medicine. Examples of clear liquids include water, broth, gelatin, apple juice, tea and coffee without creamer. Never drink liquids that are not clear, like milk, and do not drink alcohol or liquids that are red or purple. It is very important to not drink anything for 2 hours before your test. As with any medicine, more serious side effects could occur. You should read the Medication Guide to know which symptoms to watch for and when to report them. For best results with this medicine, be sure to ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
