Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. 

This is prasugrel. It reduces your risk of dangerous blood clots. This lowers your chance of having a heart attack or other serious problems with your blood vessels. 

Prasugrel is taken one time each day. You should take it exactly as your doctor tells you to. You can take each dose with or without food. This medicine is usually taken with aspirin, so ask your doctor which dose of aspirin is right for you.

Most people tolerate prasugrel well. Common side effects include easy bruising or bleeding, like nose bleeds. Also, it may also take longer for bleeding to stop. These effects are normal if they are mild. If these or other reasons make you want to stop taking this medicine, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. But, do not stop taking it unless the doctor who prescribed it says it's okay. 

As with any medicine, more serious side effects can occur. With prasugrel, this includes an increased risk of bleeding. You should call your doctor right away if you have bleeding that is unexpected, prolonged or excessive, or if you have blood in your urine or stool. To help keep this medicine safe for you, your doctor will follow your condition closely. 

You should check with your doctor or pharmacist before you take other medicines. Also, you should tell your dentists and other doctors that you take prasugrel. If you need to stop taking it for surgery, be sure to check first with the doctor who prescribed it. 

For best results with prasugrel, take it for as long as your doctor tells you to.
