Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. 

This is Orthovisc. Orthovisc is designed to restore the natural cushion and lubricant in the knee. This may help relieve pain from osteoarthritis. 

Your doctor will inject Orthovisc into your knee. You should ask your doctor if someone needs to drive you home. It is common to get repeat injections once a week for a total of three or four injections. Many patients report pain relief that lasts for about 6 months. 

After each injection, you should limit your physical activity for 48 hours. For example, do not stand for more than an hour at a time, and do not exercise. Normal walking is okay. This is important to help keep the swelling down. 

Most patients tolerate Orthovisc well, but some side effects can occur. You could have pain at the injection site or in the knee. You could also have a little stiffness, swelling or warmth in or around the knee. Your doctor will tell you if it is okay to apply ice to the knee. These reactions are normal if they are mild, and should go away. 

You should call your doctor if the reactions are severe or if they get worse instead of better. Also, call if you notice any other unusual changes to your knee, leg or body.
