Oracea is often taken one time each day, in the morning. You should take it exactly how your doctor tells you to. You should take it on an empty stomach. This means take it at least one hour before a meal, or two hours after. You should take your dose with a full glass of water. This will help protect your throat from irritation. Most people tolerate this medicine well, but some side effects can occur. These include mild stomach bloating or pain, a sore throat or nose, and flu-like symptoms. A sinus infection or yeast infection could happen. If so, you should obtain treatment. Diarrhea can also occur. You should call your doctor if diarrhea is severe, if it lasts for more than 2 days, or if it contains blood. Oracea could cause high blood pressure and changes to certain blood tests. Your doctor will watch for these effects. If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking this medicine, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Oracea can make your skin sensitive to sunlight. You should protect your skin with sunscreen and limit your time in the sun. This medicine is not recommended for children younger than 9 years of age.
