You may hear this medicine called by the brand name 'Lovaza'. It lowers high triglyceride levels in your body. For this medicine to be effective, you should also follow the diet that your doctor recommends. You should take it as directed. You can take each dose with or without food. You should be sure to swallow the capsule whole, and don't crush, chew, dissolve or open it. Before your first dose, tell your doctor if you are allergic to fish or shellfish. Most people tolerate this medicine well, but side effects can occur. You might notice burping, a change in your sense of taste, or an upset stomach. These are normal if they are mild.
