Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. These are lidoderm 5% skin patches. They numb the skin to treat nerve pain from painful conditions like shingles. They are large patches, so you can cut them if needed, before you remove the adhesive liner. The patches are usually worn for 12 hours and then removed for 12 hours, unless your doctor instructs you to do otherwise. When you remove a used patch, fold the adhesive sides together to seal it before you throw it away. You should always keep new and used patches out of reach of children and pets. Also, wash your hands anytime after handling the patch. At first, side effects can occur, like blisters, burning, tingling, or changes in skin color. These should be mild, and should go away in minutes to hours. You should remove the patch, and don't reapply it until the irritation goes away. If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop using it, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. To reduce serious side effects, avoid heating pads, electric blankets and direct sunlight while wearing the patch. Also, never apply it to a wound or open skin. You should call your doctor right away if you ever have any concerning changes to your skin or body. For best results, talk to your doctor if your pain isn't relieved like you expected.
