Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is Kapvay. It treats ADHD. It is not a stimulant medicine. But, it is often prescribed with stimulants to treat the many symptoms of ADHD. Kapvay is taken two times a day - in the morning and at bedtime. You should take it exactly as your doctor tells you to. Swallow the tablet whole with a few sips of water, and never crush, chew or break it. You can take it with or without food. If you miss a dose, just skip the dose and take the next one at the regular time. Common side effects include constipation, dry mouth, and a decreased appetite. Others include trouble sleeping, nightmares, dizziness, and feeling tired or irritable. You should ask your doctor how to manage these. Also, you should wait until you know how this medicine affects you before doing things that require you to be alert, like driving or riding a bike. If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking Kapvay, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. But, do not suddenly stop taking it unless your doctor says it's okay. As with any medicine, serious side effects could occur. With Kapvay, these include sleepiness, low blood pressure, or a slow heart rate. It could also cause withdrawal symptoms if you suddenly stop taking it. Get medical help right away if these effects happen. To help keep this medicine safe for you, your doctor will check your blood pressure and heart rate often. Also, you should drink plenty of fluids, and avoid becoming overheated.
