Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This solution contains two medicines, ipratropium and albuterol. You should use it as directed by your doctor. When a dose is due, you will put it into a nebulizer to create a mist. Then, you will breathe the mist into your lungs. It's best to breathe calmly, deeply and evenly. Also, be careful not to get the mist in your eyes. Each treatment usually lasts 5 to 15 minutes, and is complete when no more mist is in the nebulizer. A health care professional should train you on using the nebulizer. But if you still have questions, ask your pharmacist. These medicines help patients with COPD breathe better. They work by keeping the airways in your lungs open. It's usually well-tolerated. Still, some side effects can occur, like a sore throat, chest pain, voice changes, or leg cramps. You could also have an upset stomach, and diarrhea or constipation. These effects are normal if they are mild and should go away. But, if these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking it, please talk with your doctor or pharmacist. You should call your doctor right away if your breathing is ever worse. Also, call if you have unusual changes to your body, like a rash or swelling in your mouth or face. This medicine is sensitive to light, so keep the unused vials in the foil overwrap. For best results, read the 'Patient Information' leaflet for more information, and plan ahead for refills.
