Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is Intuniv. It treats ADHD. It is often prescribed with other medicines, called 'stimulants', to treat the many symptoms of ADHD. Intuniv is taken once a day. You should take it exactly as your doctor tells you to. Swallow the tablet whole with a few sips of water or other liquid, and never crush, chew or break it. Also, do not take Intuniv with a meal that is high in fat. It's important to not miss doses. If you do miss 2 or more doses, talk to your doctor, because you may need to restart treatment with a lower dose. Common side effects include mild stomach pain, dry mouth, nausea or dizziness. Others include having trouble sleeping, and feeling tired or irritable. You should ask your doctor how to manage these. Also, you should wait until you know how this medicine affects you before doing things that require you to be alert, like driving or riding a bike. If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking Intuniv, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. As with any medicine, serious side effects could occur. With Intuniv, these include fainting, sleepiness, low blood pressure, or a slow heart rate. It could also cause withdrawal symptoms if you suddenly stop taking it. Get medical help right away if these effects happen. To help keep this medicine safe for you, your doctor will check your blood pressure and heart rate often. Also, you should drink plenty of fluids, and avoid becoming overheated. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any other medicines. Also, do not drink alcohol.
