Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is Humatrope. It treats low levels of growth hormone and other growth-related conditions. Humatrope is the same as the growth hormone that is made by the human body. Humatrope is given as an injection under the skin or into the muscle. Before giving a dose at home, you should demonstrate an injection to your doctor, so you feel confident with your training. Also, you will learn how to rotate injection sites and how to dispose of needles. If you still have questions, your doctor or pharmacist can help. Most patients tolerate Humatrope well. Some side effects can occur, like pain or redness at the injection site. These are normal if they are mild and should go away. Some patients have mild swelling, tingling sensations, or pain in their muscles or joints. It's important to talk to your doctor if you think you are having these or other side effects. As with any medicine, rare but more serious side effects can occur. With Humatrope, this can include high pressure inside the brain. Call your doctor right away if you notice headaches, vomiting, or vision problems. It could also affect your pancreas, so call right away if you have stomach or back pain. Your doctor will talk about other rare conditions, and will order tests to help keep the medicine safe for you. Also, your doctor will follow your thyroid function and blood sugar closely. In general, tell your doctor if you notice unusual changes to your body. You must store this medicine in the refrigerator. Humatrope VIALS must be thrown away 14 days after the first use. Humatrope CARTRIDGES must be thrown away after 28 days. For best results, read the Patient Information and Instructions for more information.
