Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is Hepsera. It can help control chronic hepatitis B by stopping the virus from infecting more liver cells. You should take Hepsera exactly as instructed. You can take it with food, or without food. It's important to take each dose when it is due, and to not miss any doses. If you miss a dose and realize it the same day, take the dose. Otherwise, ask your doctor or pharmacist how to handle the missed dose. Common side effects include a headache, weakness, and changes in the way the kidneys work. Others include stomach problems like nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, gas and pain. These effects are normal if they are mild, and should go away. Patients who have had a liver transplant may have other common side effects. As with any medicine, more serious side effects can occur. You should call your doctor right away if you have dark urine, pale stools, loss of appetite, yellowing of the eyes, or severe pain in your stomach or muscles. You should read the Patient Package Insert for more information. To help keep this medicine safe for you, your doctor will order blood tests and follow you closely. Do not stop taking Hepsera unless your doctor says it's okay, because this could cause a serious case of hepatitis. You should check with your doctor and pharmacist before taking other medicines, even if they do not require a prescription. For best results with Hepsera, plan ahead for refills, and remember to take precautions to prevent spreading hepatitis B to others
