Let's take a minute to talk about your medication.  This is Gonal-F. It contains a man-made hormone called "FSH". It is identical to the FSH that is made in the human body. This hormone helps produce eggs and sperm. This medicine treats low levels of FSH.  It is important to use this medicine exactly as directed. Your doctor or nurse will teach you how to inject a dose and how to dispose of needles. If you still have questions, your doctor or pharmacist can help.  You may have mild bruising, pain, or redness at the injection site for a short time. Other common side effects include headache, nausea and stomach pain, or bloating. You should tell your doctor about any side effects that bother you, or that do not go away. Fertility medicines increase the chance of having two or more babies. Your doctor will talk to you about possible complications this could cause.  As with any medicine, more serious side effects could occur. With Gonal-F, these include allergic reactions, birth defects, or problems with your lungs, ovaries or blood vessels. "Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome" could occur. This condition causes too much fluid in the areas of the stomach, chest or heart. Call your doctor right away if you have severe pain in the lower stomach, nausea, vomiting, weight gain, or any other unusual changes to your body. To help keep this medicine safe for you, your doctor will follow you closely and may do ultrasound tests and blood tests.  You should store this medicine in the refrigerator, unless the directions say otherwise. Once you use a Gonal-F product, you must throw it away after 28 days, even if there is still medicine left.  For best results with Gonal-F, read the Patient Information and follow your fertility team's full instructions.
