Let's take a minute to talk about your medication.  

This is Engerix-B. It is a vaccine that protects against a virus called 'hepatitis B'. Hepatitis B can cause a short illness, but sometimes it leads to a serious lifelong illness.  

This vaccine is usually given as a series of 3 to 4 shots over a 6 month period. Infants should get their first dose at birth. This vaccine also benefits people of all ages who want protection from hepatitis B, or who have risk factors.

This vaccine is given as a shot with a very small needle. It is usually given in the upper arm. 

Most people tolerate this vaccine well. Common side effects include reactions at the injection site, like soreness, redness or swelling. It could also cause a little tiredness or fever. These effects are normal if they are mild, and should go away. Fainting can happen after any vaccine. To reduce the risk of fainting, you may want to sit or lie down for 15 minutes after the dose. If you are concerned about these or other effects, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

As with any vaccine, very rare but more serious side effects could occur, like an allergic reaction. Signs can include hives, swelling in the face and throat, problems breathing, and dizziness. Get medical help right away if you notice these or any changes that concern you, like a very high fever or unusual behavior.
