Let's take a minute to talk about your medication.

This is Benlysta. Benlysta helps treat lupus by making the disease less active. Many patients have improvements to their skin, mouth, muscles, joints, and immune system.

The most common side effects include an upset stomach, diarrhea, migraine headaches, and a stuffy or runny nose. These are normal if they are mild and should go away. If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking Benlysta, please talk to your doctor.

Benlysta is given as an infusion in your vein. Sometimes, an allergic reaction can happen. They can be mild, but in rare cases, they can be very serious. Your doctor and nurse may give you medicine to prevent or help treat allergic reactions, which can make you sleepy. They will also tell you which symptoms to report during the infusion and for a few days after. You should have somebody drive you home after your infusion.

Benlysta can lower your ability to fight infections. Tell your doctor right away if you think you have an infection or if you have symptoms like a fever, cough, bloody diarrhea or painful or frequent urination. Benlysta could cause heart problems or mental health problems like depression, mood changes or even thoughts of suicide. A rare brain infection has also been reported. Early symptoms include dizziness, loss of balance or vision problems. Before each dose, it's a good idea to read the medication guide for full information and to know when to call your doctor. To help keep this medicine safe for you, your doctor will follow you closely.

It's important to check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking other medicines or getting vaccines.

For best results with Benlysta, work with your doctor to set your treatment goals.
