Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is an Asmanex Twisthaler. This medicine can help control your asthma symptoms, and help you breathe better. Asmanex contains a type of medication called a 'corticosteroid'. It reduces inflammation in the lungs. Asmanex is NOT a 'rescue inhaler'. It cannot treat sudden shortness of breath. This medicine is often taken once a day in the evening, or twice a day. You should use the inhaler exactly as your doctor tells you to. After your dose, you should rinse your mouth with water, and then spit the water out. This reduces your chance of getting an infection in your throat called 'thrush'. Most people tolerate this medicine well. Common side effects include a headache, runny nose, sore throat, and symptoms of a common cold. Others include muscle pain, back pain, menstrual cramps, and an upset stomach. These effects are normal if they are mild, and should go away. If these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking it, please talk with your doctor or pharmacist. But, do not suddenly stop taking it, unless your doctor says it's okay. As with any medicine, rare but serious effects could occur. Asmanex could cause an allergic reaction, and it could weaken the immune system, adrenal glands, and bones. Children will have their growth measured to make sure it does not slow down. Always call your doctor right away if you notice unusual changes to your body, and if your breathing ever becomes worse. You should read the Patient Information guide for more information. For best results with Asmanex, be sure to read the 'Instructions for Use'. Also, ask your pharmacist to watch your inhaler technique.
