Patients usually tolerate this medicine well and start feeling better soon. Some common side effects can occur though, like a rash, nausea or a headache. You could also have mild diarrhea which should end when this treatment is complete. You should let your doctor know if you notice these effects or other changes to your body. When taking any antibiotic, females should watch for a vaginal yeast infection and obtain treatment if it occurs. As with any medicine, rare but more serious side effects can occur. This includes an allergic reaction which may start with tingling or swelling in your mouth or trouble breathing. To help keep this medicine safe for you, your doctor will follow you closely. You should tell your doctor right away if you have a bowel movement that is watery and bloody, even if it happens two or more months after your last dose. For best results with ampicillin and sulbactam, you should finish the full course. Otherwise, the infection could return and become hard to treat.
