Let's take a minute to talk about your medication. This is albuterol sulfate solution. This medicine will be placed into a nebulizer, which allows it to be breathed into the lungs. This medicine should be taken as directed by your doctor. When using the nebulizer, it is best to breathe normally. Each treatment usually lasts 5 to 15 minutes, and it is complete when no more mist is in the nebulizer chamber. Albuterol treats shortness of breath and wheezing from asthma and other lung conditions. Sometimes it is called a 'rescue medication,' because it works quickly and lasts up to 6 hours. Albuterol is usually well-tolerated. Still, some side effects could occur, like a rapid heart rate, tremors or nervousness. This is normal and should go away. But, if these or other side effects become reasons you want to stop taking it, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist. If your breathing is ever worse, or you feel that you might need treatment more often than usual, you should call your doctor right away. Also, this medicine is sensitive to light, so protect unused vials with the foil overwrap. For best results, take albuterol only as prescribed, and ask your pharmacist if you have questions about your nebulizer.
